Kurt snickered at Amber, as she stuffed the brownie into her mouth and did her Alvin and the Chipmunks impression. “Well, at least the brownie was to your liking, I know the perfect present for you for Christmas… Starbucks gift card…” he said. He then tilted his head, and picked up a Glee shirt, inspecting it lightly, before grinning and offering it to her.
“I think this’ll be good for you. You like Glee, right?” he asked. In all honesty, he was the main person who was going to be in charge of the drama department, what with his expertise in those matters. Years in the circus would give you that.
He grinned at her, looking around. “I’ve always been fond of this store. I like the hair dyes. It reminds me of the different people that are in the circus. You get people with pink hair, people with green hair, und people with silver hair, und you never know if it is natural or not.” He said. He missed the circus… he felt more at home there. Sadly however, he was just not meant to stay there.
He took her shirts from her, and headed to the counter. “I’ll get these. Apparently I owe you for earlier, correct?” he asked, as he pulled out his credit card and grinned. “Und I save a lot of money, wages as a teacher und all, so, this is on me.” He said, as he paid for the shirts, all 4 of them, and handed her the bag with her shirts.
“Here you go, liebling. Now, where to next?” he asked, chuckling and offering his arm to her.

After swallowing the brownie and chasing it with a sip of coffee, she promptly stuck her tongue out at Kurt. "Ach, I don't want anything for Christmas," she said. Then again, she'd yet to have a Christmas. She showed up at the Mansion just after New Years and had spent her birthday there. She looked away from him while he inspected a Glee shirt, fighting away the feelings of embarrassment of never knowing a Christmas, and the fact that he more than likely didn't know that.
When she looked up, he was offering the shirt and she smiled sheepishly. Glee was indeed her guilty pleasure. Reaching out, she gently plucked the shirt from his hand and looked it over while a song from the show played in her head. Hell, she didn't even notice that she'd started humming the tune that was in her head.
With the shirts draped over one arm, she took another sip of her coffee and nodded a bit. As he spoke of the circus, images flooded her mind to a point that she had to lean against him to steady herself. So many memories he had, not all of them good. She could feel how he missed it, and she didn't blame him one bit, especially since she understood considering she knew what it was like to not be not normal - and she didn't mean looks wise. He didn't have to hide who he was there, unlike at the mall. "Ja," she murmured, her eyes looking down at the white lid on her coffee.
The memories would fade within days, and she'd resume not knowing what his life was like. There was a pang of guilt as that realization rolled through her mind. For the first time in her short life she understood someone completely, and it wouldn't stay that way. She took a deep breath and stood up straight as he took the shirts from her, then followed him to the counter. "Danke," she said quietly. Honestly, she really only wanted coffee out of him. Okay, and the brownie, too. She knew that the mishap earlier wasn't his fault, if she was designed to have the powers then it would have happened sooner or later.
Too bad she didn't know she was supposed to have them, she could have been prepared. Absent mindedly she chewed on her lower lip, lost in her own thoughts for the time being. she had to wonder, would he be so comfortable out in public with her if he knew the truth? She watched him as he paid for the shirts and took her bag from him, slipping her wrist through the handle, then shrugged. "Not a clue. I'm just grateful to be out of the mansion. I don't really need shoes, have a ton of those, und thanks to you I'm set on tees for at least a month. We could just wander the mall?"

Just wander the mall? Sounded ok to him. So, her arm locked in his, he began to lead her around the mall, walking slowly, passing various stores as he snuck looks down at the pretty young woman locked on his arm. But, it was so quiet…so, he cleared his throat, and he smiled down at her.
“So, let’s talk while we wander. Tell me, anything you’d like to know, just ask.” He said, knowing fully that he was possibly opening a dangerous door, one that couldn’t be shut again…
Her question was less than he was expecting… Basically, she was asking would he go back to the circus… and he pondered that for a moment, before sighing softly and looking down at her.
“That’s a tough question… there are days where I don’t know… I do miss Germany… und I do miss my family. But there is something I learned with age… Family is who you make it, und home is where you make it. My heart is with Xavier’s School, und my students und friends. I couldn’t leave you all now if I wanted. So would I go back? No. Not anymore.” He said, grinning a bit at her.
He looked over to the cheesecake factory store, and tugged her lightly, taking her into the store and getting two slices of NY style with strawberries and leading her to a seat. He smiled at her, as he forked a bite of strawberry.
“Tell me a bit about you, Amber. We know so little about you, I’d love to know you better. You’re an interesting woman… how anyone who likes all of the things you do can be so solitary is beyond me.” He said, waving his fork at her playfully.

She listened as he spoke. Faces played before her eyes as he mentioned his family, as well as various images from what she could only assume was Germany. There was so little she knew about the world outside of the complex and Xavier's mansion that it was depressing. She looked up at him and smiled a bit, "Well, I bet ze others und ze professor wouldn't mind hearing that." In all actuality, she was relieved to hear it. Her arm tightened slightly around his as they walked, and then there was another slight yelp as he suddenly changed directions to go in to the Cheesecake Factory. "Again, warn a girl when you're about to change directions. A hand signal or something would be welcomed!"
Seated at the table, she followed suit and took a bite of a strawberry. She'd never had cheesecake before Xavier's mansion, and she'd found that she liked it. A lot. Probably more than she should, actually. She smiled at him, but her face changed to a blank slate when he wanted to know more about herself. She pressed her lips together and gazed down at the slice of cheesecake before her.
"Xavier knows quite a bit about me. The important bits that were needed to know have been stated. I'm a mutant with what is now apparently three powers," she mumbled as she plucked the remnant of a stem from a strawberry. It didn't even take much thought to focus on the dormant energy within it. With a sigh as it started to glow, she flicked it in to the air and watched as it gave a soft pop and fell to the ground in ashes.
"But, liebling, if you don't mind me asking... you said something about being designed earlier in the kitchen. Question... are you like Logan?" Kurt asked.
She looked over to Kurt and leaned back in the chair. A mix of emotions washed through her emerald eyes as she struggled internally. So, he'd caught her accidental slip of the tongue? Great.. "Logan was born of normal means, I'm sure," she growled and stabbed the slice of cheesecake with her fork. "I don't know if you're aware, but there is a program that was reopened after Weapon X. They now have the ability to create mutants at a genetic level while still in an embryonic state. What you see before you? I'm not normal. I'm just a creation of the government!"
She looked around, suddenly glad that the area was relatively empty and there was no one within ear shot of their table. "I was created to have the mutations of kinetic manipulation, as well as power and memory absorption. I can only assume that they decided to give me shapeshifting, as well, but it was never mentioned. Perhaps they thought that particular mutation hadn't taken and just never bothered to inform me about it. Who knows. Logan was a mutant before the adamantium was injected into his skeletal system. Me? I'm just the creation of someone's ever brilliant imagination. I'm not like you, I'm not like Logan or Rogue."
Her green eyes hardened as she looked back up to Kurt, "Still want to hear more? About how I'm designed to be a spy? A creature that was meant to kill instead of live amongst society?" Her voice trembled as she spat out the last few words, tears formed in her eyes. "I'm just a test subject. Nothing more."

Kurt sighed, listening to her story, and let her finish her rant. He looked up when she said she wasn’t like him. No, not true at all. She was like him. She was so like him it wasn’t funny. He took her hands in his, the two fingers and a single thumb on each hand able to be felt through the image inducer. He looked to the waitress at the counter, and smiled lightly.
“Miss, we’ll be right back.” He said, as he pulled Amber to his feet, and sneakily, he pushed her gently into the bathroom, locking the door behind him. As soon as they were alone, he turned off the image inducer, and he stood in front of her in all of his blue furred glory.
“Amber, if anyone knows what it’s like to be different, it’s me. Look at me. Sure, I was born to this world by what is considered normal, but as mutants, who are we to decide what is normal and not? Our births alone is the product of a single sperm meeting a woman’s egg at the right time of a single month. Then we survive, we endure the womb, to be born, where we’re all defenseless. Sure, your womb was not the same as mine, but I still think there is a reason for it other than being a weapon…” he said, as he took her hand and lifted it, placing it to his cheek.
“You feel that? It is fur. It’s all over.” He said, as he moved her hand to his chest, and closed his eyes. “Und that? It’s a heartbeat.” He said, as he moved it to her own chest. “Your heart beats just as mine. You bleed the same shade of red as I do. You are not that different… you are unique, und it is those things that are unique that makes us all interesting creatures of free will und emotion. Und you are so full of life… that I think you’re perfect as you are. All of your differences und everything.” He said, smiling at her.
He blinked his yellow eyes at her, and he pulled his indigo hair back on the back of his neck to show the scar on there, from where Weapon X took him years ago. “Look at this… I was used as a weapon by this government just as you. They tried to make me assassinate the president, und they almost made me succeed. It was the good graces that kept me from killing an innocent man, just as good graces brought you here, und good graces put you in our company. Amber I wouldn’t trade a thing for today, weapon or no.” he said, looking her straight in the eyes.

The look of disgust she'd half expected? It didn't come. Part of her knew he'd understand, if only because of what she knew of his life. She was, however, surprised when she was in the bathroom as quickly as his turn into the Cheesecake Factory had been. With the door locked, she leaned against the wall, watching as he turned off the image inducer. There he was, the original and one of a kind Kurt that she'd known since she'd arrived at Xavier's just months before hand.
She listened to his words as solemnly as if one were speaking a sermon. In a way, it was like he was - the Book of Kurt Wagner. With her hand in his, she felt the soft fur on his cheek, and the feel of his heart beating within his chest until finally her hand rested over her own heart. She swallowed hard and squared her shoulders, her head tilted back slightly as she forced the tears that threatened to escape back into their ducts. This was no place to be crying and, besides, she didn't have the proper makeup to repair any black tear streaks that could happen.
In his eyes, she was perfect. She wasn't a thing built to kill. No, she was simply Amber. Amber with a fuzzy blue elf smiling at her. A strangely angelic fuzzy blue elf that could frighten the normals with his original form. So, after looking at the scar on the back of his neck, and hearing the story that went with the random images in her mind, she took a deep breath. Things had taken a serious tone, and it wasn't her style to let it stay that way.
So she did what the typical Amber would do.
She cracked a grin and promptly pounced on him, stroking his hair and cheek like one would a kitten with both legs around his waist and one arm around his neck. "You're so fluffy I'm gonna die!" she exclaimed. There. Mission complete. Maybe that would get him to laugh, or he'd look at her extremely strangely. Either way, the tension was broken, the serious mood evaporated. At least, she hoped so.

Much to his surprise and relief, Amber grinned after he was finished, and, she pounced him like he was a stuffed panda. He laughed, as his arms went out to try and stop the stumbly fall that was coming next, but to no avail. He toppled onto his back, Amber balanced precariously on his lap. He blinked, looking up at her, and he grinned broadly.
“Amber, Amber, Amber. I’m glad you’re in better spirits, but you’re in a rather…provocative… position. Would you mind scooting two inches up or down, please?” he asked, scooting her himself up onto his hips, away from other areas.
He then blinked at her, his tail whipping behind him a bit fiercely. He gulped lightly… this reminded him of the time he and Jimaine were playing in the circus tents as children, and she landed on him. He was about 12… and it had been the first time anyone had shown any interest in him as anything other than a friend or a freak. She had leaned down, and she had planted a kiss right on his lips. He, being the gentleman, had backed away, unaware of the fact that nowadays, even then, it was ok to kiss a girl without being betrothed to them. Growing up in Germany with the Gypsies would hide a few things from you.
He stared up at her, his eyes shining in the light of the dim bathroom. She was a pretty thing… and she was very close to his mouth… he could lean up and kiss her if he so chose to do so… he really could…

"Oh, don't act like you don't enjoy it," she said with a smirk before wriggling where she sat before she was promptly moved. The way she was positioned, the way they'd fallen during her pounce, would probably look bad if one of the staff people of the establishment somehow managed to get the bathroom door open. Was that thought weight on her mind, though? Nope, not at all.
One hand rested beside his head, the other underneath. The only sounds were the muffled music from outside the door and the sound of his tail whipping around. The way she was leaning over him, her brown locks framed her face, almost concealing both of theirs from view. She, too, gulped lightly. Well, this was definitely a first for her, and for the first time she hadn't a clue as to what to do next.
Baby, I like it - the way you move on the floor. Baby, I like it. Come on and give me some more..
She could just barely make out the words of the latest hit of Enrique Iglesias as it barely penetrated the bathroom door. Her digits beneath his head writhed, her thumb light grazing his hair with a light caress. His mouth was so close to hers, if she just lowered her mouth down to his another inch, if that, their lips would meet. The question was, though, did she dare..? Would it make things awkward? Would the spark that romance novels spoke about happen?
'Ach.. Too much thinking, too little doing,' she thought to herself. Cutting off her own thoughts, she leaned down and closed the gap, her ruby lips pressing against his.

As Amber stared at him, he had the intelligence of mind to say to himself that he should be getting up now… Yep. Should leave. Should leave and head back to his cheesecake. However, he didn’t get a chance to do so, because a moment later she dipped her head and kissed him.
And his world went upside down and inside out.
Kurt’s stomach twisted. In his head, he was thinking ‘This is wrong, she’s 18, I’m 28, this is wrong, no one will approve…’ but his body was reacting before his head could make sense of it, and he felt himself kissing her back, lifting Amber and pressing her into the wall gently as his lips searched hers.
A minute later, breathless, they broke apart, and Kurt looked at her with glazed eyes. He smiled at her, and ran his hand thru her hair.
“Amber… you’re far too kind to a man like me. I’m too old for you, there’s a thousand guys your age who want you, why would you choose someone like me?” he asked, pressing his forehead against hers, sighing lightly.

When he didn't respond she began to inwardly panic and start to pull her lips away from his. That, though, changed. She found herself with her back literally against the wall and he began responding to the kiss she'd only just placed to his lips. Instinctively she wound her legs around his waist, just as she'd done when she'd pounced him, and threaded her fingers into his hair.
Then the kiss broke. Her chest rose and fall as she struggled to regain her breath, her lips slightly parted. "Verdammt," she murmured in wonder, and blinked her eyes. After a moment she gazed into his eyes and leaned her head instinctively in the direction his hand was moving through her hair, a small, sheepish smile playing on her lips.
She carefully wrapped her arms around his neck, surprisingly comfortable against the wall, and smirked a bit. "Because, liebchen, I tend to follow gut instinct a lot. So maybe it was the cheesecake, or maybe it was the coffee und espresso brownie, but it's leading me to you." Typical Amber, she didn't seem to have a serious bone in her body, but she was serious about that statement. "You understand me, and, thanks to your tail, I understand you."
Gently she stroked the fur on his cheek and stole a quick kiss from him. "And ze boys are immature. I like `em older - but not ze Professor's age older, mind you. Sides," she added and tugged lightly on a strand of his hair, "I'm starting to dig the fuzz."

Listening to Amber speak, he felt the worry that had been in his head melt away slowly, for the most part. However, the little feeling that he was gonna get an ear full for this was still there, and that fact was there probably because she was his student for crying out loud…
It was a good thing, then, that he had been planning to pass her for his class well before this…
He chuckled at the fuzz comment, but his head tilted at the comment about understanding him. She had just turned into him, nothing more… Unless, her slip of the tail had caused his memories to transfer to her too… which would not be great. He had done a few terrible things in his time… he had killed his brother… his adoptive sister Jimaine had been his first love, something which would be considered Taboo here, he was a gypsy who believed in the arcane. Any and all of these things would make people run away screaming in fear.
He smiled, however, and turned his image inducer back on. “We should make an appearance… we’ll continue this chat as we walk…” he said, kissing her forehead, then leaving the bathroom, throwing the waitress a smile.
“Ach, mein apologies, my friend in there is a little ill, but I think she’s ok. Migraine, if I’m not mistaken. We’ll take what we have left to go, in a couple of boxes and in a bag please, Danke.” He said, as he grinned to her, as the waitress packed their food for them. Kurt then looked to the bathroom, and waited patiently for Amber.

Almost as if she were reading his mind, she gave a small smile. "Yes, Kurt, when your tail bumped into me and started the shapeshifting process it also sent the other ability into overdrive. Thankfully it was only a brief second your tail touched me, otherwise who knows what could have happened? And, no, I don't have all your memories, only a few. So far." She tilted her head to the side as she looked at him, "It won't last long, and then I'll forget them. Happens every time. Three days tops, I promise."
As he turned his image inducer back on, she carefully slid herself back to the floor. With a kiss to her forehead, he was out of the bathroom, leaving her there with her thoughts. Silently she closed the door again and peered at her reflection in the mirror. Well, if she could turn into Kurt, what else could she turn into? Pondering those thoughts, she quickly repaired the ruby lipstick and ran her fingers through her hair. Once satisfied that she looked as good as she did when she'd hopped into the car, she opened the bathroom door and returned to the table.
Cheesecake in hand, she slipped back into the bustling mall with Kurt, though this time it was her turn to lead him off into a different direction and believe me when I say she didn't waste any time in doing so. After spilling her guts about her sham of a life and then the rather surprising turn of events in the restroom, all the girl wanted was a cigarette. Once outside in the cool air, she pulled Kurt to the unoccupied end of the doors and took her cigarettes out.
"So," she started as she slipped a cigarette between her lips and lit it, "where to next? More shopping? More wandering? A drive in the country?"

Kurt grinned as she dragged him thru the mall as fast as she could. He had a feeling of what she wanted, he had seen her smoking at school every so often. She was 18, however, she could legally smoke if she wished, so he said nothing. He was not their parents, he was a teacher.
As they stopped, and she lit her cigarette, he leaned back against the wall, shooting her a small look. Well, it was fairly nice out… and she seemed to be able to resist the chill. Perhaps… and this was a good idea… perhaps his favorite place was in order. His quiet place…
“I know just where we’re going. Since it’s around noon, you can go in und grab some Changs for us both, I get the Chicken und Broccoli with Brown sauce und fried rice, with a crabmeat Rangoon, and I can get the car going. Trust me, it’s a good place.” He said, as he took her free hand in his, and kissed it lightly, before winking and heading to the car. He had slipped his card into her pocket with his tail, thankfully the image inducer hid it, but he could still use it.
As he started the car and waited, he grinned, turning on the radio and leaning back in his seat. As soon as she was back, he pulled out of there, heading down the highway, his image inducer now off, as he used his tail to operate the fork she had brought him, shoveling food into his mouth as he drove.
He smirked over to her, as she ate. “Danke, liebschen. I have a surprise for you… a little place I go to think…und a place that I’m sure you haven’t seen very often…” he said, his eyes revealing nothing.

"Oh, sweet, sweet nicotine," she purred, a long wisp of smoke escaping with her words. She slipped onto the stone ledge next to where Kurt leaned and crossed her legs. It seemed that she was in a good mood, more so now that she had a cigarette slowly smoldering away. The damn song from the Cheesecake Factory was stuck in her head, though, enough so that she was humming the tune of I Like It.
She was halfway through the cigarette when he spoke. At the mention of Chang's, she had the cigarette flicked into the ash tray and hopped off the ledge. "Aye aye, Captain," she said with a grin. Luckily for her, though, that he'd already turned and headed to the car when a blush crept itself along her cheeks. Within minutes she was in and out of the mall, a large bag held in one hand, and a smaller bag in the other, and, hopefully, he wouldn't ask for the receipt.
She could already picture his face if he saw the bill, and she wasn't sure she was ready to see that face.
While they sailed down the highway, she had her own food out and was shoveling her own food into her mouth. Super spicy Mongolian beef, brown rice and pork dumplings. For added amusement, and perhaps as a way to hold the other item, she had allowed herself to relax just enough to shift a copy of his tail onto her own body, in which was firmly grasped a large cup of hot dragon oolong tea. "So good," she moaned around a mouthful of food.
Her eyes swayed to him as he spoke and she smiled at him, "nein, nein. Danke. Und what's this "little place" you speak of?" Damn, that German accent of his had crept back into her voice, along with his vocabulary. That was definitely one thing she could do without. Although, the tail was definitely coming in handy. She eyed him as she shoveled in another bite of Mongolian beef, followed by a steamed pork dumpling, all washed down with a long sip of tea.

He grinned over to her, as his tail grabbed his own tea from the cup holder, and smirked. “You’ll like it. I have a feeling it’ll be the first time you ever see it.” He said, being as vague as possible as he took the exit, then a mile down the road, took the car down a path off road. They were speeding through the underbrush and the dirt, passing god only knows how many trees and other types of wildlife in their drive.
He pulled the car to a stop about 15 minutes later, and took her hand, glad she had finished eating, and BAMF! They were out of the car.
When they reappeared, he pointed over her shoulder, and he smiled at her. “I love this place. It’s quiet because no one comes here, und I can think und just be free…” he said, as he moved to the sand and sat, his shoes off so his toes could curl into the sand of the shore.
The smell of salt in the air. The whooshing of waves as the broke on the shore.
Kurt had taken Amber to see the Ocean for the first time.
