Looking at the clock in her dorm room, Jubilee sighed and looked back at her homework. She had been at this for about three hours and her stomach was rumbling. Hearing it growling for the fifth time, she looked down at it and shut her book "Okay, okay...I hear ya... 'Feed me! Feed me!' Gah...is that all you can think of?"
Knowing it was weird to be seen talking to her stomach like she was, she didn't care. She never really cared what people thought of her. When she came to the institute after her parents' murder and being found like she was, she didn't waste time to tell people she couldn't give a hoot what people thought of her.
Sliding off her bed and slipping her feet into her slippers, she pulled her yellow housecoat over her pajamas, tied her hair back into a ponytail and made her way out into the hallway.
Walking down the stairs to the kitchen, she looked around and didn't see anyone there. Wow...that was a first. Usually there was one or two students around...doing the same thing she was, looking for something to munch on.
Shrugging and turning to the cabinets, she opened them one by one and grinned seeing her favorite cereal on one of the shelves. "Sugar Bombs? Right on!!"
Pulling the box down and shutting the cabinet, she reached into the fridge and pulled out the milk carton and a bottle of soda. Juggling them over to a table, she sat down and poured herself a box of the sugary junk food and milk and smiled a little as she bit into her first spoonful.

Yes, she should have been spending the evening doing the pile of homework assignments in her dorm room. Yes, she should have been studying for the tests tomorrow. Yes, she should have even been working on the massive reading list that Maria had given her. Was she, though? Not a chance. Homework wasn't her forte, and that was probably why she wasn't doing so hot in the classes. No doubt Professor Xavier would be having a talk with her sometime within the near future about that.
So, what had Leiko been doing? The same thing she does every night, Pinky - she'd spent the evening in the garage, working a new vehicle she'd picked up at the junkyard. She'd been lucky, though, with the find. While looking for some spare parts for her GTO, things she always liked to keep on hand as a just in case sort of thing, she'd stumbled across a 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT-8. In orange, no less. It had minor frame damage, the body's front end was missing a bumper and several dents, but was it junk? Oh hell no it wasn't.
She'd only just managed to get the body off the frame and start welding the damaged parts to strengthen them when her own stomach reminded her that she was hungry, and her throat screamed at her that it was as dry as a desert. A quick glance at the clock had told her it'd been at least eight hours since she'd eaten or drank something. So, with a sigh, she gave in to the needs of her body and wiped the sweat from her forehead unthinkingly with the back of her hand, leaving a long, narrow streak of a combination of grease and oil on her face.
After grabbing a rag, she proceeded to the back door that lead in to the kitchen. She bumped the door with her hip, knocking it open, and stepped in. The initial glance showed that there was one other girl in the kitchen. Other than her, and now Leiko, it was deserted. "Those sugar bombs aren't exactly health, you know," she said nonchalantly as she gently kicked the door shut behind her and made her way over to the sink.

Blinking and hearing a voice behind her, Jubilee turned in her seat then shrugged a little "I know...but they're still good...want some?" Turning back to the bowl and taking a drink of her soda, she looked down at it then swished her spoon around in it. She had been lost in thought before Leiko came in and was surprised when she came in.
Looking back to Leiko curiously, she furrowed her eyebrows "What have you been up to?" Pushing a strand of hair back from her face, her face showed her inquistiveness as she took another sip of her soda and waited for an answer.

Within the time it took for Jubilee to take a drink of her soda and swish her spoon around in her bowl, Leiko had already gotten to the sink and had begun washing her hands. She looked over her shoulder, though, and raised an eyebrow at her. "Same thing I always do, work on cars. I managed to get a forty-eight thousand dollar car for a couple hundred because it has frame and body damage. Unfortunately, before I could get finished with welding one part of the frame my stomach decided to interrupt.." With her hands under the faucet, the water turned black from the oil and grease, black bubbles foamed around her hands.
After thoroughly washing and drying her hands, she slung the towel she'd used to dry her hands on over her shoulder and made her way to the fridge. "Do we have any tofu and nori left?" she asked, though Jubilee was probably the wrong person to do so. "I'm feeling like miso soup tonight and I really hate the instant stuff that's available in the local grocery store." Hell, she could go for some real traditional Japanese food right about then, but one made do with what they have.

Listening to Leiko, Jubilee looked up from her bowl of cereal and nodded "Cool...I was actually working on a paper. Kinda let time get away from me and I skipped supper." Shrugging, she sighed and pushed a strand of hair from her face. "My stomach started hollering at me right when I was getting to the middle of the paper too." Listening to her about the car, she raised an eyebrow "Would be awesome to see what it looks like when it's done."
Taking a bite of cereal, she looked around then pointed to the refrigerator "I think I saw some tofu and nori in there." Smiling a little, she shrugged inwardly "Gotta hand it to the Prof and the other teachers, they know what we like and always have food on hand." Furrowing her eyebrows, she tilted her head curiously "Miso soup actually does sound good." Motioning down to her cereal, she shrugged "I was actually hungry for some sugary junk, but hey, if you need help fixing that soup I'm in."

Pulling the fridge door open, she did indeed see the package of tofu in there, and the box of nori. She made a face as she pulled both items out and sighed, "nori.. Does not get refrigerated when it's already dried. Hey! Shiitake mushrooms! Sugoi!" Item after item was set on the counter as she went between the fridge and cabinets. The recipe in her mind called for so much stuff it was ridiculous.
After all the items were assembled, she started boiling the water while she measured out different ingredients. "If you really want to help, you can cut up the shiitake mushrooms. You don't have to. I can't say it'll taste good with that bowl of diabetes you're eating there, though.." She snickered to herself and turned to put dashi in to the water. "Can't do much else anyway until the water boils."

Blinking and listening to Leiko, Jubilee smiled a little "Hey, try telling that to the people who buy the food next time." Shrugging, she looked down at her bowl of cereal and finished the last spoonfuls. Taking the empty bottle that contained the soda and bowl to the sink, she quickly washed them both out and threw the bottle into the recycling.
Hearing Leiko telling her that she could cut up the shitake mushrooms, Jubilee nodded and pulled out a knife from one of the drawers "That I can do...and hey, don't diss the sugar coated cereal...when a person gets busy with studying, they tend to forget about supper and they have to go for the sugary stuff to keep 'em going."
