"Come on, kids, you have to do better than that!," Cally yelled at the kids lines up in front of her. Mutants, students at the Institute, her students for the training. The Danger Room was still and silver, inactive but ready at a moments notice. She stood in front of her intermediate class, mostly level three mutants. Some didn't respect her as a teacher, because of her age, how young she was, or they took one look at her gauntlets and assumed that she wasn't in control of her abilities, but it didn't matter. The students needed to train, and Cally was one of the best. She wasn't a high level four mutant for nothing.
Sometimes the kids were tough on her, trying to upstage her, thinking they were better. Others didn't want to fight her at all, either because they knew what Cally held in her metal gauntlets or they thought she was too weak for them. Cally wasn't impressive to the eye, especially in her leather combat suit, her figure was small, but the kids should know by now not to judge on appearances.
Cally's hair was up, but loose strands fell in front of her face. She was just a bit annoyed, none of the students succeeded in the activity, a simple game of king of the hill, or queen of the hill, in Cally's case. They were supposed to defeat her, get past her defenses and steal her crown, a metal ring that sat on her head. She went hard on them for a reason. But today was just disappointing. Cally wasn't trying to be harsh or brash about it, but everyone expected so much from these kids, it was her job to make sure that they deserved it. "Anyone want to enlighten me on why you failed today?"

Jean watched on, crossing her arms. Looking at how the kids were. Disrespecting Cally just because she looked weak. She went into the danger room and opened the door, but before anyone could respond. "Number one, you show your teacher no respect. All of you don't use your heart, fighting if your sad or angry isn't the way of fighting. Three, you do not see her as a threat. But if you saw her in combat, you would respect her. Someone can look helpless, but if you are stupid about it. That is where you fail, and it may even cost your lives." She crossed her arms and looked at Cally a smile of friendship and respect was seen on Jeans face.
Looking back at the students, her hands on her hips, seeing the students paying attention. "you are being trained hard, because this is not a game, this can kill you. You must listen to this woman, she knows best" Jean spoke. Jean was a rather simple kind of person, the phoenix had been giving her trouble lately. But would never let that on.

Looking exhausted with the other students, she listened as Cally chewed them out. Again. Sighing and looking down, Jubilee pushed her hand through her hair in aggravation. She had been here at the school for the last couple years and she had to go through training sessions before...but the other teachers weren't really this brutal.
Hearing the door open, she looked up and saw Jean enter the Danger Room and furrowed her eyebrows. It had been a short time since they found out she was alive and Jubilee was still cautious around her. But really, this was going too far.
Looking around at the students around her, she knew that some of them were feeling the same way she was. Aggravated. Exhausted. Sick and tired of the endless training. Furrowing her eyebrows and looking at Callisto and Jean, she sighed "Come on..we're doing the best we can. We're trying at least."

She noticed what Jubilee said and smiled at her, looking down she sighed some. "We all love you guys, we are afraid to lose you. I lost someone I was close to as a child. I had a human friend, but she vanished many years ago. You must learn, we do not want to break you...." She looked down for a moment.
"You must learn how to kill me...I do not know all who knows, but I know you know Jubilee. I want to be able to sleep at night, knowing that you are strong enough to fight. Everyone tries to stop us, but the brotherhood is also a huge threat. I almost killed Scott and for that, I will always see myself as a monster. That is why you need to learn to protect yourself and to protect innocent life" She looked back up.

Blinking and looking up at Jean uncertainly, remembering how the X-Men had found her, Jubilee bit her lip and looked away listening to her. Listening to her as she said that she wanted them prepared for anything, to be prepared to kill her and anything else that threatened them. Shaking her head, she looked incredulously up at Jean. "Excuse me Jean, but if I remember right, this school is to teach us to use our powers the best way we can...it's not to teach us to kill someone."
Knowing what she was getting at, she sighed quietly. She remembered hearing what happened to Scott and the Professor and that's what really made her cautious toward Jean. She had gotten to know her and Ororo as teachers since she first came to the school...but then after the Liberty Island incident when Rogue was kidnapped by Magneto Jean had never been the same.
Thinking about her words of being prepared to kill anyone, she also knew that required to protect themselves and innocent lives but she couldn't help but remember the men who killed her parents. They had never been caught after they killed her parents in cold blood. Damn it, she was not prepared to turn out to be a monster like them. Looking up, she shook her head "I'm sorry...I can't kill anyone...I just..."
Cutting off there, she looked around at the other students then at Callisto and Jean and closed her eyes. She hated appearing weak in front of the others like this. Taking a deep breath, she shook her head again and started quickly brushed past them to the locker room "I've gotta get some air...I'm sorry."

Cally watched as Jubilee practically ran out of the room. AS much as she liked Jean, she felt that since she came back, things had gotten tense. Threats were common, Cally just wanted the kids to be able to protect themselves if someone as powerful, or even more powerful than herself came along. It was a tough time, being how they were.
"Jean, please continue, I'll be back," Cally excused herself from the Danger Room, leaving the kids with Jean. Cally though that she was a hard teacher, but Jean.... well, she hoped that the kids would have fun. Cally walked out, past the locker room and followed the young girl. Catching up, Cally carefully put her gauntlet clad hand on Jubilee's shoulder. "You are going to have to pardon Jean for now. She tends to get a little overzealous when training,"
Cally tried to be sympathetic. Perhaps she was to hard on them. Sometimes she forgot that she was the only one that had gone though such 'rigorous' training when developing her powers. "I understand why you might be hesitant and I apologize for pushing you so far. I forget that not everyone was like me when I discovered my powers..." Cally's sentence faded. The students knew that Cally herself came from a bad background, but only the Professor, and Jean, knew what she really did. Cally tended to keep the past the past, but if a student asked, she didn't lie about it. "Do you want to talk?"

Shutting the door behind herself, Jubilee quickly gathered up her shoulder bag and sweats thinking to change in her room. She didn't understand why she was feeling this way. It might have been because it was getting close to the anniversary of her parents' murders. She always got this way around this time of year, shutting herself off from other students...even the teachers seemed to give her some space.
Sure, Rogue was there to lend an ear but since coming to the school a few years ago, Jubilee hadn't had a chance to go back to California to visit her parents' graves. She felt bad about it but with the killers having never really been accused of murdering her parents, she knew that they were still out there. Probably just waiting for an opportunity to see her and snatch her like they tried to do that day so long ago.
Tensing a little and feeling the hand on her shoulder, Jubilee turned and looked at Cally then forced a smile to her face "Sorry about in there Cally...I didn't mean to do that...it's just that Jean...she seems so different now...and.."
Taking in a deep breath, she sighed "It's almost the anniversary of my parents' murders...and when she talks about having to defend ourselves like that, I can't help picturing myself in a scenario where I'm killing the person who's attacking us. Then I see the men who killed my parents..." Running a hand through her hair she sighed "It's been three years since I came to the school...since my parents died...and I haven't even been able to visit their graves back in California..."
Balling her hands into fists, she saw small sparks shoot off from her hands and took a deep breath. That had always happened when she was angry about something. "I can't do it...I will never be prepared to take someone's life like that...no matter what they do...and the Professor here...he's just preparing us to deal with our powers...not take human lives..." Looking at Cally, she shook her head "How can anyone do something like that? And live with themselves afterwards?"

"Honestly, I don't know, there are many reasons, none that are explainable," Cally sighed. She never regretted killing all of those years ago, she never felt guilty about it. To her, killing was survival, it was a necessity. When she had refused, the man that found her and raised her decided to try and kill her, threw her into a lake to let herself fry.
Cally thought back to her own father's death, at her hands. It hurt to think about it, but she felt the same pain that this girl was. "My father... died when I was thirteen," She sighed. "I ran away not too long after that, but I havn't seen my mother since then, I can't even go into the neighborhood that I grew up in...
Jubilee said that she couldn't kill someone, that she couldn't bring herself to do it. Cally admired that, in reality. "It take a special kind of person to kill, but it takes an even better person to not. It means that you actually have a heart, and you are in control of what you do. It doesn't make you weak to want to preserve life."

Listening to Callisto, Jubilee looked to her then bit her lip looking down. So she wasn't the only one who lost parents. She knew that Rogue's parents disowned her...Storm's parents were killed as well...but she didn't know about the others' stories. Sighing, she looked back up "I'm sorry...it must have been rough on you."
Running her hands through her hair and listening to Cally say that it took a special kind of person to want to preserve life, she smiled "Thanks Cally..." Looking down, she furrowed her eyebrows "I know who the guys are that killed my parents. And instead of keep them in prison where they belonged, the court system let them go... 'not enough evidence' to go against them."
Narrowing her eyes at the memory, she shook her head "I hate them...I really do...but I just can't see myself killing them...I really can't."

Cally listen carefully to the girl in front of her, someone who suffered and never had a chance to change that. Cally had used the hatred bottled up from her fathers death and her abandonment of her family to kill others so she could survive. She had become this animal, a heartless monster, and soon, it had corrupted her. It if wasn't for Professor Xavier, who knew where she would be now. There was still this... strange presence inside of her mind, but she was working on it.
"Listen, whether or not you are going to be in the position of confronting them. Justice isn't about taking someones life. I used to think that... if someone was no longer in this world, that the bad they had in them would disappear. But it is about doing what's right, not getting rid of them." Cally tried her best to be reassuring, but in all honesty, she wasn't the right person to be talking about morals and doing whats right, not with her past hanging over her head. "When the times comes, you'll know the right thing to do, it's in your blood.

Listening to Cally, Jubilee sighed running a hand through her hair. "Then why does Jean think that we have to be prepared to kill anyone?" Closing her eyes, she shook her head "I'm sorry...I might have misunderstood what she meant...but still...it seemed that's what she meant."
Looking down, it was evident by her expression that she had had an opportunity to decide matters like this before. She had had the choice whether or not to take the mens' lives in the courtroom after their trial. But she had decided to go with the law and found herself coming here to Westchester after the Professor had found she had no family to go to.
Looking back to Cally, she smiled a little "So...what do I get for leaving practice like this? An hour tops with the toughest program the Danger Room has to throw at me?"

Cally smiled wide. She felt envious of Jubilee, even with a life as hard as hers, Cally wished she had the opportunity to have been here, at the institute, at such a young age. Her life could be better that way, maybe... There were so many opportunities for them, so many people here who loved them and they didn't have to worry about begin bothered about their abilities, and no one expected them to go and kill someone of value so that they could eat dinner.
Cally considered the punishment. She could let it go, but... "Actually, I was thinking of kitchen duty for the rest of the week... She giggled. "After all, Mr. McCoy is making dinner tonight, and they are going to need the extra help in clean up.' She put her arm around Jubilee and pulled the girl close. Honestly, this girl was absolutely sweet. Cally always wanted a close relationships with her students, and this time, this conversation, may have brought these two together. "Just to let you know, I will always be here to talk."

Blinking and looking at Cally as she was pulled to her, Jubilee smiled a little. "Cleaning up after Mr. McCoy cooks? Now that's scary..." Sighing and tucking a strand of her hair behind her ears, she furrowed her eyebrows then frowned a little thinking about what had happened the last couple years. The institute being attacked, her being kidnapped by Weapon X...or whoever they were. Then Jean dying and coming back from the dead.
Sighing she looked back up and smiled a little again "All right...thanks Cally...I appreciate the talk. After everything that's been going on I guess I really needed it."
